The Pact for the Future is an international agreement adopted by world leaders at the United Nations during the Summit of the Future in September 2024. The Pact for the Future contains chapters on sustainable development and financing for development; international peace and security; science, technology and innovation and digital cooperation; youth and future generations; and transforming global governance. The Pact presents a unique opportunity to contribute to and accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.

Young people, who comprise most of the Kenyan population are crucial stakeholders in the localization of the pact and the implementation of the SDGs. Most of these young people are not actively aware of and engaged in the localization of the Pact for the Future and SDGs processes. In a bid to localize the Pact for the Future, we at Champions for SDGs Youth teamed up with partners to host an in-person youth dialogue on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Nairobi 🇰🇪. We had previously hosted a high-level webinar (https://youtu.be/pWu9omxgxxQ) and are keen to reach and engage young people in the process, especially at the community level.

The physical dialogue provided a platform for youth participants to engage with their peers and other stakeholders on the Pact of the Future, its annexes, and how this can be leveraged to accelerate SDGs implementation in Kenya and beyond. Based on the five thematic areas of the Pact, participants were split into five smaller groups, where they had a discussion on their role as youth and that of other stakeholders, and then a representative from each group made a brief presentation on their discussions. In the end, the dialogue therefore raised the levels of awareness on the role of youth in localizing the pact and highlighted opportunities for them to actively contribute to the process.
